Privacy Policy

Short version: I collect only what you choose to send me, plus basic anonymous site analytics. I use it to reply to you and to understand site traffic — and I never sell your information. The full details are below.

Who this applies to

This policy explains how Jacob Hedtke ("I," "me," or "my") handles information collected through this website, jacobhedtke.com. I'm a freelance web developer based in Tippecanoe, Ohio, USA. By using this site, you agree to the practices described here.

What data I collect

I keep data collection to a minimum. There are two sources:

  • Information you send me. When you fill out the contact form or message me directly, I receive what you provide — typically your name, email address, phone number (optional), the service you're interested in, and your message.
  • Basic site analytics. This site uses Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site (for example, which pages are viewed, how visitors arrive, and general device, browser, and approximate location data). This is aggregate, statistical information — it isn't used to personally identify you.

How I use your data

I use the information you send me to respond to your inquiry and discuss your project — answering questions, preparing a quote or timeline, and staying in touch about work we're discussing or doing together. I use analytics data only to understand overall traffic and improve the website. I do not use your contact details for marketing blasts, and I won't add you to a mailing list without your clear consent.

Cookies & analytics

Google Analytics sets cookies to measure site usage. You can control or block cookies in your browser settings, and you can opt out of Google Analytics across all sites by installing Google's official opt-out browser add-on. Analytics data is processed by Google under its own privacy policy. Aside from analytics, this site does not use advertising cookies or build advertising profiles about you.

How your messages are handled

Contact-form submissions are delivered to me through a third-party form-delivery service (Formspree), which simply forwards your message to my email inbox. Your message then lives in my email, where I keep it only as long as needed to help you or maintain our working relationship. I take reasonable, common-sense steps to keep your information secure, though no method of transmission over the internet is ever 100% secure.

Sharing your data

I do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to anyone — ever. I don't share it with third parties for their own marketing. The only third parties involved are the service providers described above (Google Analytics for traffic measurement and Formspree for delivering your message), each acting only to provide their service. I may also disclose information if I'm legally required to do so.

This site links to other websites — for example, live client projects and my Facebook page. Once you leave jacobhedtke.com, this policy no longer applies. I'm not responsible for the privacy practices of other sites, so please review their policies separately.

Children's privacy

This site is intended for business and general audiences and is not directed at children under 13. I don't knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent me personal information, please contact me and I'll delete it.

Your rights & choices

You're in control of the information you've sent me. At any time you can ask me to:

  • Tell you what information of yours I have on file.
  • Correct or update it.
  • Delete it from my records.

Changes to this policy

If I update how I handle data, I'll revise this page and change the "Last updated" date above. Significant changes will be reflected here, so it's worth checking back occasionally.

Governing law

This website is operated from the State of Ohio, USA. This policy and any related matters are governed by the laws of the State of Ohio, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules.
